Do you want vocals with that?

Last night found the guys laying down vocal tracks. The songs we worked on were "Take Me Back" one that Duane sings.

Comments from Duane " On March 13, 2003 I wrote this one while driving in my car. I had just listen to Can’t You See and the tune stayed with me. I started with Take me Back and the rest came from there.

Then Dom took his turn at vocals, kicking out the rocker "Get on with your Life". Comments from Duane on how he came up with this song:

June 22, 2003 After hooking back up with Rick and Dom we have been writing our own songs. At a practice on June 18th 2003 we were talking after practice and the phrase “Get on with your life and leave my life alone” came up regarding a friends ex-wife. The friend shared with us on occasion how needy and controlling this ex could be in regards to their daughter. I joked and mentioned that we should write a song with this phrase. On Saturday evening the 21st of June I sat down and these words appeared in about 10 minutes.

Then Rick took his turn on vocal with Dom and Duane adding backup to "Summer Love". With comments on how this song came about here's Rick: Back in the early eighties when Duane and I were in college one evening we wrote the lyrics and music to this one. Dan E. was the first to do vocals on this one.

Duane continues: On April 2nd 2003 we brought it back into the mix and I remember Rick saying it was boring and wanted to change it. We worked on the vocals and gave it a true 50's style.

What an evening!!!!

We may be a couple weeks before we get back in the studio because in Michigan the state holiday of deer season begins next week and will find these three in the woods - with an instrument of a different sort. Stay Tuned!

Words and Music

Back in July 2005 we began recording, learning the Tascam 2488, mic placement, levels etc. The first song that was recorded is one Duane "the wordman" wrote about a friend of his from New York. He had gone through a nasty divorce and was having a hard time. The song "Why Do People Change" (a middle of the road rocker) deals with just that. Here is the words to the first verse and chorus:

His wife left him after twenty years of marriage
She asked him to leave without sayin a word
He walked out the door, his kids were a cryin
He never saw it cumin it broke his heart

Why do people change and not for the better
Why do people do the things they do
Why do people change and not for the better
I ask you why do people do the things they do
copyright Nov 2002 Duane W.
Duane takes the vocals on this one with strong background vocals from Dom and Rick. Currently the song is in the mix down stage. Hopefully we will have an mp3 on-line soon for all to enjoy.
Fast foward to today..... since recording "Why Do People Change" the guys have laid the music tracks to four other songs: Legend (in your own mind) a west coast grung type of song, Take Me Back a southern rock bluesy style, Get on with your life a straight foward rocker and Summer Love a fifties style rock song complete with 'do ops'. As of last night all the track are down except the vocals. Planning on doing those next week. The doctor has left the building... Stay Tuned.

Then and Now

It all started with a bunch of kids from West Michigan. Mark, Duane, Randy, Marv and Rick. Four were in high school and one in junior high. That was 1978. So long ago but just like yesterday.

The band over the years went through many changes. Marv left and Dom took his place on BassGuitar. Added singer Dan E. and then others Gene, Kellie, and Dan D. The core throughout the years have been Rick, Duane and Dom. We may go back on some of the history of the group later.

Moving ahead to 2001. Duane turns forty followed by Rick and Dom. At each others parties we talked about why we were not playing. (Band had been broke up for 4 years at this point). It was agreed that we would meet one night of the week and jam.... Kinda like therapy.

The core of the group was back. Shortly thereafter Duane began writing and bringing the words and an ideas of what the song was like in his head (scary place). Anyway that began a new journey. Working on and recording original songs.

We have currently changed Dom's basement into a recording studio. Duane picked up a Tascam Digital Recording studio and we are all busy recording. The doctor is in. Life is good and we are having fun.

Stay Tuned for updates from each member of the band.
